FiveM server rules template: a copy-ready roleplay ruleset

Six blocks of original rule text, numbered so staff can cite them, with blanks for the timers, caps and penalties only your server can set. The examples for those blanks come from rulebooks that real servers publish.

The short version

A FiveM server rules template is a numbered ruleset you copy and then finish: one behavior per rule, grouped into general, roleplay, combat, gang and staff sections, with brackets where your server sets its own numbers. The six blocks below are original text, each with its own Copy button.

How to use this FiveM server rules template

  • Number by section and rule. Staff write "3.2" in a warn or ban reason, and players quote it in reports. Retire a dropped rule's number instead of renumbering.
  • One behavior per rule. A line that covers two things gets argued as two things.
  • Fill every bracket. Brackets mark a blank, such as [time], or a choice, such as [may / may not].
  • Date it and announce changes. Redux Roleplay (opens in a new tab) says any change to its rules will be paired with an announcement in its Discord.
  • Write your own. Use other rulebooks as examples; Redux, for one, forbids duplicating its document without an owner's approval.
  • Keep the public rules short. Write the edge cases of the New Life Rule, RDM and VDM, and combat logging down for staff, and put staff ranks and training in a staff handbook template.

The platform's terms sit above your rules: the Creator Platform License Agreement (opens in a new tab) makes a server admin responsible for the server's content and for keeping it within that agreement and its creator policies.

General and community rules

Rules 1.1 to 1.5
Rules of [server name]. Last updated: [date].
They apply in game and in our Discord. Staff may act on
behavior these rules do not name.

1. GENERAL AND COMMUNITY

1.1 You must be [age] or older to play here.
1.2 Respect players and staff. No slurs, hate speech
or harassment, in or out of character.
1.3 Use a realistic character name.
1.4 Cheating or exploiting is a permanent ban on the
     first offense.
1.5 One account per player. A ban applies to every
     account you use.

Roleplay rules

Rules 2.1 to 2.8
2. ROLEPLAY

2.1 Stay in character. Out-of-character talk goes to
     [OOC chat / Discord].
2.2 Metagaming: act only on what your character learned
in character. Streams, Discord, names over heads and
your other characters are out-of-character sources.
2.3 Powergaming: do not force an outcome the other player
     could not respond to.
2.4 FailRP: keep your actions realistic for the scene,
     injuries included.
2.5 Value of life (fear RP): outnumbered or at gunpoint,
act as someone who wants to live.
2.6 New Life Rule: after a respawn, forget what led to
your death and stay away from the scene for [time].
2.7 Identity: use a character's name only once your
character has heard it in character.
2.8 Masks: you [may / may not] identify a masked
     character by the voice alone.

Combat rules

Rules 3.1 to 3.5
3. COMBAT

3.1 Initiation: make your hostile intent clear in
character and give the other side time to answer.
Initiation lasts [time], or until your character
     dies.
3.2 RDM: do not attack or kill a player without
     initiation and a roleplay reason.
3.3 Defending yourself or your group against an active
threat or attack is not RDM.
3.4 VDM: do not hit a player with a vehicle on purpose
without initiation and a roleplay reason.
3.5 Combat logging: do not leave the game to escape a
scene or an arrest. If your game crashes, rejoin
and tell the people in the scene.

Gang and crime rules

Rules 4.1 to 4.4
4. GANGS AND CRIME

4.1 A group that commits crimes together needs staff
     approval first: [how to apply].
4.2 A gang has [min] to [max] members.
4.3 At most [n] members of one group take part in a
hostile scene, [n] during a heist.
4.4 Territory: [no group owns any part of the map /
turf is claimed only with staff approval].

Staff and report rules

Rules 5.1 to 5.6
5. STAFF AND REPORTS

5.1 Report a rule break after the scene, with
[/report or a ticket], within [time].
5.2 Add a clip that starts [n] minutes before the rule
break, the time, and the server IDs involved.
5.3 Staff do not judge a case they played in, or one
about their friends or their own group.
5.4 Staff in a gang: [at most n per gang / not allowed].
5.5 Staff name the rule number in every warn, jail
     or ban.
5.6 Appeal a decision within [time] through [where].

Filling the blanks: what published rulebooks set

This FiveM server rules template leaves the numbers open because published rulebooks disagree on them, as these examples from Fat Duck Gaming (opens in a new tab), New Day RP (opens in a new tab) and Redux Roleplay show.

Blanks in the template and published examples
BlankRulePublished examples
NLR time2.6Redux 15 minutes; New Day RP at least 1 hour
Crew in one scene4.3New Day RP 4, or 6 in a heist; Redux 6 in criminal PvP; Fat Duck 16 in a gang scene
Gang size4.2Fat Duck starts at 6, up to 20 slots; Redux at least 5 to apply, at most 30 with hang-arounds
Territory4.4Redux: rule of 6 when contesting a territory, except an org defending its compound
Report window5.1Redux 48 hours after the scene
Clip length5.2Redux at least 2 minutes before the rule break

Adapting the rules to a light or a serious server

For a lighter server, loosen lines in sections 2 and 3 and keep sections 1 and 5. A server can also switch rules off in one area: on and near Cayo Perico, Fat Duck Gaming (opens in a new tab) suspends its rules on hostility without a roleplay reason, fear for your life and memory after a respawn.

For a serious one, tighten the same lines. New Day RP calls itself "a serious roleplay server" and asks that initiation be more than "hands up or die", with enough time for the other side to respond.

  • Joining: open, or a whitelist application first.
  • Timers (2.6, 3.1) and crew caps (4.3): your call; the table above shows how far published NLR times and crew caps differ.

The penalty sheet: fill in your own

Block 6 has no durations because there is no standard one. Published systems differ even in shape:

  • A ladder. Redux runs from a documented first warning through bans of 48 hours, 3, 7 and 10 days to a permanent ban at the sixth. RDM and combat logging count as two warnings, and warnings reset each quarter.
  • Points. At New Day RP, 30 warning points (opens in a new tab) over 12 months trigger a permanent ban.
  • Strikes plus instant bans. In game, DPSRP (opens in a new tab) steps from a warning to a kick, a temporary ban and a permanent ban, and tampering with or exploiting server processes is an instant ban.

Decide whether warnings expire and which breaks count double; cheating stays a permanent ban on the first offense. A server without a staff panel can keep the record with txAdmin's warns, bans and player notes.

Where 5CODE fits: rule numbers in warns, jails and bans

In 5CODE Admin Panel, a staff panel for QBCore, Qbox and ESX, the reason of a warn, jail, kick or ban is a text field: staff type the rule number into it, such as "3.2 RDM".

  • The player reads it. A warned player who is online gets "You have been warned:" with the reason, and a banned player reads it on the join screen.
  • Repeat offenses are visible. A player's profile lists their earlier bans and warns with the reason and who gave each.
  • The record can be searched. Every staff action goes into a log where each warn and ban carries its reason, and its search finds text in the reason. Log lines are deleted after 90 days by default; bans, warns and tickets are never deleted.
The Logs page of the admin panel on a tablet: filter buttons All, Actions, Ban, Warn, Kick, Reports and Connects above a search box, and a list of entries, each with its time, a tag such as /warn, /ban, /join or /noclip, and a name; some lines also show the player it was used on and a reason or a setting, such as the warns and the ban at the top.
Warns and a ban in the log, each with its reason.

A warn does nothing by itself: there is no automatic kick or ban after a number of warns, so block 6 stays your staff's call.

Lines 2.2, 2.6 and 2.7 are where 5CODE Recognition comes in. Nobody knows anybody by default, and a masked acquaintance is scanned like a stranger and saved as a separate memory. It covers the New Life Rule in part: die without a revive and you forget the people who watched you go down; keeping away from the scene stays your rule's job.

Recognition never blocks a shot, a robbery or a cuff. It cannot see a Discord call or a stream on a second screen, so the rule and your staff still decide.

Where to go next

Post the rules in a rules channel in your Discord, where players read them before their first scene. Then give rule 2.2 its full text: how to word a metagaming rule covers its sources and edge cases.
