Introduce, Describe & Witness Statements

On this page4

Three ways that knowledge about a person moves between characters without anyone scanning anyone.

Introduce yourself

/recognition:introduce, or the Introduce yourself option on a target script.

Stand face to face with somebody within 3 m and type a name. It can be your real name or a complete invention — the script does not care and never checks.

The listener gets a short line — They introduced themselves as "Mike". — and from then on, whenever their character recognizes you, an extra line shows under your label on their HUD: Introduced as "Mike".

RuleDefaultConfig key (Config.Introduce)

Who hears itOnly the person you are facing ('one'). 'nearby' = everyone close who faces youMode

Introducing while masked

The name sticks to the look they can actually see. Tell somebody your name with your face visible, and it goes on their memory of you. Tell them while you are wearing a mask, and it goes on their memory of the masked person — which is exactly right: "the guy in the balaclava said he was called Mike."

If they have not scanned you yet, the name waits for up to 2 hours (PendingHours) for the next scan to attach it to. A name given while masked is dropped if the two of you part before a scan happens (SameEncounterOnly).

Describe someone to a friend

/recognition:describe, while facing the friend.

Pick one of the people you remember from a short list, talk for 8 seconds (Describing...), and your friend now has a second-hand memory of that person.

RuleDefaultConfig key (Config.Describe)

Second-hand knowledge is never enough to act. Fifty per cent is well under the 80 % act line, on purpose: a description gets your friend looking for somebody, it does not let them walk up and act on it. Keep Cap below Config.Scoring.ActThreshold.

You cannot pass on a description somebody gave you. Knowledge degrades once and then stops.

The hint line

After a scan, somebody who holds a matching description or camera report can see an extra line under the result:

Looks like someone you were told about: Heard of a guy seen on Grove Street (40%)

RuleDefaultConfig key (Config.Describe)
Hint line on or offOnHint

Who sees itOnly the jobs in Config.Jobs.HintJobs — 'police' by default; add your sheriff or FIB jobs thereHintPoliceOnly

The hint never reaches the 80 % line, so it is a lead, not an identification. Only the hint line is limited to those jobs: a friend who was given a description keeps that capped memory whatever their job.

Witness statements

/recognition:statement.

Turn one of your own memories into a written description for the police. Pick the person from the list, add up to 500 characters of notes, and spend 10 seconds writing (Writing a statement...).

RuleDefaultConfig key (Config.Statement)
Where it goesA paper item and the MDT, where your server has one ('both'). Also 'paper', 'mdt' or 'choice' (the player picks)Delivery

The statement itself is a plain description — clothes, visible tattoos with their pattern codes, the face if you saw it. No percentages and no real names: it reads the way a witness would actually talk.

How much detail each part gets depends on how well you saw it:

How well you saw that cueWhat the paper says
60 % or more (DetailPct)Full detail — colours and pattern codes
25–59 %The basics only — what it was and where
Under 25 % (MinCuePct)Did not see the clothes clearly / Did not see the face clearly

A witness statement gives the police information only. Reading it does not give an officer a memory of the person — only a real camera recording does that.

The picker

Describe and Statement both open the same small list: the 20 people you have seen most recently, sorted A–Z, shown as their labels only — the short first-meeting line, such as Met him on Vinewood Blvd in the evening.

There are no percentages, no timers and no "you know this one" marks. A person you have noted twice — once with their face visible and once disguised — appears as two ordinary, unrelated lines, exactly as your character understands it.

The list stays valid for two minutes (Config.Picker.TokenSeconds) and then has to be reopened.
