Known Limitations

On this page9

Everything on this page is known, deliberate or scheduled, and none of it is a bug you need to report. It is here so nobody has to discover it in production.

Recognition

A tattoo has to be known to be scanned. Tattoos come from GTA's own tattoo list or from your appearance / tattoo script. A tattoo that neither of them knows about cannot be scanned.

Hand tattoos count as forearm tattoos. GTA gives tattoos no hand zone, so in version 1.0.0 a hand tattoo is treated like a forearm tattoo: long sleeves hide it, gloves do not. You can map hand tattoos yourself — see Face Coverage, Clothing & Tattoos. A built-in list of GTA's hand tattoos is planned for a later update.

Unclassified clothing counts as hiding. Until Auto-scan has run over a new EUP or addon pack, its items are treated on the safe side: an unknown mask covers the whole face, an unknown top has long sleeves. Hats and helmets are the exception and behave like a cap. Run Auto-scan after installing a clothing pack.

Non-freemode peds have no tattoo layer. A character on an addon or ped-menu model shows a black tattoo badge, because the model genuinely has nowhere to put tattoos.

Voice

Talk detection is not equally good on every voice system. pma-voice and native Mumble are read directly and are reliable. SaltyChat, YaCA, TokoVOIP and Enhanced give the script less to work with, so on those the server may be marked low trust for voice:

Code
[5code-recognition] Voice detection is low-trust on this server (provider: enhanced). Voice results are flagged for admins.

Voice still works on those systems; the results are simply flagged in the staff panel so a dispute can be judged with that in mind. Enhanced voice support is labelled beta.

The audible voice-changer effect is pma-voice only. On every other voice system the device still fools every scan perfectly — it just sounds like the wearer's normal voice to other players.

pma-voice has a limit of about 40 audio effects shared by every resource on the server. We ship a small fixed set to stay well inside it, and set it up again after a radio or phone call replaces it.

Inventories

Inventories without item metadata cannot carry a device serial. On those, handing a device or a paper to somebody uses /recognition:handover while facing them, instead of a normal item transfer. Everything else works the same.

Standalone servers keep items in the script's own store. With no inventory at all, use /recognition:items and /recognition:use <item>.

Hidden camera

Printing needs the camera. A camera recording waits in F3 → Camera recordings for 24 hours and prints once. The player must carry the hidden camera to print it. A look the camera saw less than 50 % (Config.Scan.MinSavePct) of is not kept as a recording — the player is told how much the camera saw.

Printing needs the F3 menu. The Camera recordings list is part of the F3 menu, which only exists with Config.StartMode = 'menu' (the default). With 'prompt' or 'target' there is no way to print a camera recording in version 1.0.0. See Devices & Reports.

HUD integrations

Our HUD is always our own. Where a supported HUD is detected — JG HUD and others — we offset our panel so the two do not overlap, and we hide ours while theirs takes over the screen. What we do not do is put our percentage into a slot inside their HUD: that would mean changing their script, which is not ours to do.

bridge/hud.lua has an open place for feeding our state to another HUD in the future. In version 1 it does nothing for every HUD.

This script works alongside JG HUD.

Charts and pictures

The Discord export ships a text sparkline, not a rendered chart image. The picture option is hidden rather than offered as something that would always fall back. The sparkline carries the same information.

Language

English only at launch. Every text is in an open locale file and a translation is a copy-and-translate away — see Localization — but no other language ships in the box.

Evidence scripts

Some noobsystems evidences v1.3.0 / v1.3.1 builds do not send their fingerprint/DNA result, so a Lab ID cannot be granted from them without a known one-line fix in that resource. Our adapter simply waits rather than erroring. Test one fingerprint analysis after installing. See Police, MDT & Evidence.

Measurement

The performance figures are server-side. They come from a load simulation of a 256-player server. The cost on a player's machine is not part of them — check it with resmon on your own server. See Performance.
